Savour Pancake Connoisseur’s ‘Sweet Floppy Perfections’ at Dormershire Farm Market this Saturday.
Press Release: 20 February 2011
A former fine food executive chef who made pancakes his first love will certainly be the main attraction this Saturday at Dormershire Wine Estate’s monthly farm market.
“My pancakes were once called sweet, floppy perfections by a food writer,” says Siegfried Kitching, who waved the world of gourmet cooking farewell and now trades under the name Pancake Perfect in the vendor market. “I do sweet and savory pancakes and use lactose-free dough to accommodate those who have lactose allergies. In addition I use soda water in the mix instead of normal water to give my pancakes that extra fluffiness.
“Those with a sweet tooth can choose from my variety of syrups, caramel, banana, milk tart custard, and chocolate creations. On the savory side there are fillings such as bobotie, marinated biltong and avocado, creamy chicken and bacon, and even a bacon and egg pancake which can easily stand in for a breakfast,” says Siegfried.
Pancakes apart the Farm Market also offers unique produce from the area such as fresh vegetables and olives straight from the surrounding farms, Kuilsriver Butcher’s famous boerewors, biltong, freshly baked homemade goods, plants, and compost for the garden. There will be enough eats on sale plus a variety of stalls selling anything from handmade jewelry to pottery products. Parents can bring their kids along to burn their energy on the jumping castle.
As usual Dormershire offers a generous free wine tasting and visitors will also have the opportunity to taste from their French Oak barrels in the maturation cellar. Dormershire is the only South African wine estate that sells wine en primeur (by the barrel), which enables purchasers to fix the price of their wine in advance and do private blends under the supervision of the winemaker.
The Estate is situated on Langverwacht Road on the border of Kuilsriver and only produces Stellenbosch Wine of Origin. Their GPS co-ordinates are: Latitude: -36.562690; Longitude: 18.425505. The timing for this Saturday’s Farm Market on 25 February is from 9:00 until 15:00. Please contact (021) 801-4677 or wine@dormershire.co.za for more information.

Barrel Tastings, Boerewors and Boerseep to be had this Saturday at Dormershire Wine Estate
Press Release: 25 January 2011
This Saturday sees the first Dormershire Wine Estate Farm Market in Kuilsriver where homegrown products such as fresh vegetables, boerewors and boerseep will compliment a free red wine tasting straight from the barrels.
“We were inspired by our successful run in the Summer in Stellenbosch Valley Festival in December last year organized by the Stellenbosch Wine Route and now intend to do it on the last Saturday of each month,” says Paul Frost, a practicing attorney who owns this boutique wine estate with his wife Sunette.
“Visitors will have the opportunity to buy unique produce from the area such as fresh vegetables straight from the surrounding farms, Kuilsriver Butcher’s famous boerewors, biltong, ginger beer and real homemade ‘boerseep’. Yes, there are still people who make their own soap. We will have enough eats on sale plus a variety of stalls selling all sorts of bric-a-brac. Parents can bring their kids along to enjoy the jumping castle.
“We are getting hectically busy on the farm preparing for the harvesting season, which kicks off early February. Despite a water shortage early this month caused by repairs to a burst supply-pipe in the Stellenbosch region things are looking good. The vineyards are disease-free and the yield promises to be above average,” says Paul.
Apart from their generous free wine tasting visitors will also have the opportunity to taste for free from their French Oak barrels in the maturation cellar. Dormershire is the only South African wine estate that sells wine en primeur (by the barrel), which enables purchasers to fix the price of their wine in advance and do private blends under the supervision the wine maker.

Somer in Stellenbosch Vallei Fees
Persverklaring: 9 Desember 2011
