Dormershire Barrel Owners - buy en primeur

Picture

Companies and individuals are invited to become a Dormershire Barrel Owner through the purchase of one or more barrels from our 2011 boutique vintage range. We offer a selection of 225 litre (300 bottles) barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz or a blend selected by you. Experience the unique process of wine maturation while you improve your knowledge and understanding of the wine making process. This method of purchasing wine known as 'en primeur'
stems from Bordeaux, but is also applied in Burgundy, Rhone and Sauternes. Other countries such as Italy, Austria, Germany and Spain also offer it to a lesser extent.

The Concept

1. Mature your wine for a period of 12 to 18 months under the supervision of our winemaker with whom you regularly taste until it’s ready for bottling;

2. Blend your own wine in consultation with our winemaker;

3. Bring your friends, colleagues or corporate clients for free tastings at our cellar. They sample from your barrel, we provide wine for the function;

4. You are entitled to a 15% discount on our entire wine range excluding special offers;

5. We top up the ‘angels share’ (evaporation) and the sampling from your barrel during the maturation period  - approximately 12 litres per year;

6. Authenticate your wine label with a name of your choice or have your own label designed;

7. After bottling the empty barrel becomes yours.

Costs

1. The cost for a 2011 vintage barrel of 225 litres of wine (300 bottles/50 cartons) including all maturation costs until bottling is R10,500 (VAT included);

2. Additional bottling cost of approximately R11.00 per bottle is payable at the time of bottling. This includes: the bottles; corks; bottling of the wine; the labeling thereof; the packaging in six or twelve bottle cartons; and free delivery in the Cape Peninsula;

3. Owners may add a name of their choice on the Dormershire label. Alternatively an exclusive label designed and printed at the owner’s cost can be used;

Benefits

1. Barrel Owners are entitled to taste wine from their barrels at their own convenience throughout the maturation period. An appointment only needs to be made with the winemaker;

2. We provide wine for three wine tastings and/or corporate functions per year for a Barrel Owner and ten guests. Barrel owners are required to bring their own snacks but can also make use of our caterers;

3. In consultation with the winemaker Barrel Owners may make up their own blend from the Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz of this year’s vintage.
Dormershire Wine Estate

Dormershire a boutique wine estate established in 1996, is situated in the Polkadraai area between Kuils River and Stellenbosch.  All the wines produced by the estate have a Stellenbosch Wine of Origin certification.

The estate encompasses only six hectares of Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz cultivars, which in total produce some 50 tons per year.  Harvesting and sorting of bunches are done by hand. All red wines are matured in small French and American Oak barrels. The Estate has received  various Veritas awards and several star ratings in the John Platter Wine Guide.

Paul and wife Sunette Frost own the estate.  Paul is an attorney who runs his own legal practice in Bellville, Cape Town while Sunette manages the wine estate.  Stellenbosch University B.Sc. graduate Michelle Louw is the full-time winemaker.
